چکیده

We investigated dynamic programming (DP) and statemodel (SM) approaches for estimating gestural scores from speech acoustics. We performed a word-identification task using the gestural pattern vector sequences estimated by each approach. For a set of 75 randomly chosen words, we obtained the best word-identification accuracy (66.67%) using the DP approach. This result implies that considerable support for lexical access during speech perception might be provided by such a method of recovering gestural information from acoustics.

Estimation of Articulatory Parameters

This paper presents our research work of estimating articulatory states and model parameters from speech acoustics. This work represents a prerequisite for a speech recognition system based on articulatory dynamical models. The model parameter estimation was based on the vowels obtained from 590 sentences of 59 speakers from TIMIT speech database, whereas the state estimation experiments have b...

Automatic speech recognition using articulatory features from subject-independent acoustic-to-articulatory inversion.

An automatic speech recognition approach is presented which uses articulatory features estimated by a subject-independent acoustic-to-articulatory inversion. The inversion allows estimation of articulatory features from any talker's speech acoustics using only an exemplary subject's articulatory-to-acoustic map. Results are reported on a broad class phonetic classification experiment on speech ...

Measuring coarticulation in spontaneous speech: a preliminary report

Constantly improving processing capabilities have recently opened the door to a type of language data that was previously impossible to study: the phonetic properties of spontaneous speech. Within the past two decades in particular, studies of the acoustics of conversational speech have become more common, and more sophisticated. The present study seeks to further expand our understanding of na...

Recognizing articulatory gestures from speech for robust speech recognition.

Studies have shown that supplementary articulatory information can help to improve the recognition rate of automatic speech recognition systems. Unfortunately, articulatory information is not directly observable, necessitating its estimation from the speech signal. This study describes a system that recognizes articulatory gestures from speech, and uses the recognized gestures in a speech recog...

Acoustic-to-articulatory inverse mapping using an HMM-based speech production model

We present a method that determines articulatory movements from speech acoustics using an HMM (Hidden Markov Model)-based speech production model. The model statistically generates speech acoustics and articulatory movements from a given phonemic string. It consists of HMMs of articulatory movements for each phoneme and an articulatory-to-acoustic mapping for each HMM state. For a given speech ...
